History of Grama Panchayat
Kanjoor and Sreemoolanagaram Panchayats were formed after the bifurcation of the old Vellarappilly Panchayat.
The first President of Kanjoor Panchayat was Shri Parakkal Yohannan.
Vellarappilly Kovilakam, the birthplace of Shakthan Thampuran, is located at Puthiyedam in Kanjoor.
This region has a deep historical connection with the Cochin royal family.
The Periyar River flows along the eastern and southern sides of the area.
Kanjoor gains spiritual significance from its proximity to Kalady and Malayattoor.
The Puthiyedam Devi Temple was the family temple of the Cochin royal family.

The lamps donated by Shakthan Thampuran are still preserved in the church.

The first Malayalam school was started under the leadership of Fr. Mathai Kathanar.
St. Joseph’s Girls High School and St. Sebastian’s School later became major educational institutions.
